8 UN Staff Killed in Afghanistan

The attack occurred at the center of operations for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

8 UN staff were killed today in Afghanistan. The tragedy occurred after the demonstrators attacked a UN compound in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

As quoted from page www.un.org, Friday, April 1, 2011, attacks occurred in the center of operations for the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), according to information released by the spokesman for Secretary General.

Not yet known for sure about the other victims in addition to eight UN staff. UNAMA also pledged to ensure all the facts and keep the victim.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Staffan de Mistura, currently on his way to Mazar-i-Sharif to handle this situation.
