Hammerheads toothed animal found in Australia

Such teeth have never been found previously in mammals.

Weird teeth shaped like a hammer was found in two species of marsupials (marsupials) ancient. Such teeth have never been found in other mammals. Possibly, the teeth are used as a tool for crusher shell of a snail or a snail.
The second fox-sized marsupial fossil found in northern Australia were aged around 10 to 17 million years. By researchers, both are named Malleodectes mirabilis and Malleodectes moenia.
"This creature has a giant-sized premolar teeth, which if in humans, its position is between the canines (fangs) and molar (wisdom)," said Rick Arena, paleontologist at the University of New South Wales, Australia, as quoted by FoxNews, 25 April 2011.
Arena said the specimens found very strange that a team of researchers can not confirm what they found. "Dentistry is not like teeth that we have seen previously in mammals," he said.
According to the researchers, the unusual teeth that may be used to crush hard objects. Although Cyclodomorphus gerrardii, measuring 40 centimeters lizard that lives in rain forests of coastal eastern Australia have similar teeth to crush snail shells, but the teeth like that are not found in mammals.
Level of similarity between the two animals were also the most shocking examples of mammals and lizards. It is estimated that, if both are living in the same region, they compete with each other in search of prey.
