April, Japanese Import products will slide sharply

Decrease in imports from Japan are now starting to be felt Customs officials.

Directorate General of Customs Ministry of Finance estimates that a sharp decline in imports from Japan would likely take place from April 2011. The condition is not independent of radiation concerns that may be brought at the products from the Home Affairs Sakura.
"Maybe April will be a new look sharp decline," said Head of Compliance Guidance and Information Service, Customs KPU Tanjung Priok, Agus Rofiudin, to VIVAnews.com in the Commission of Customs and Excise Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Tuesday, March 29, 2011.
According to Agus, the decline in importation of goods from Japan was already starting to feel. Although showing a downward trend, the current rate of decline in the entry of goods from Japan recorded no more than 50 percent.
Agus pleaded not able to launch more detailed data about the decline in import volume and percentage decline. Because, all the data out of the entry of goods will be recapitulated and must wait for monthly reports.
Customs estimates, the decline in Japanese imports mainly come from imports of processed food products and fresh food are worried about radiation exposure. Fears about eating Japanese food products are also strengthened with the mandatory provisions of radioactive contamination of nuclear-free certification from the Japanese authorities.
The entry of Japanese goods, according to him, also must go through a series of checks carried out by a number of agencies coordinated by the Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Health, Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), and the Ministry of Agriculture Quarantine Agency.
"After checking by the relevant agencies, new items can be out of the Tanjung Priok port," said Agus.
In addition to food products, the decline in importation of goods from Japan will also be experienced by automotive components. Government concerned if this decline continues, will threaten the domestic automotive industry.
"All agencies, including private parties of course have to anticipate the Japanese imports continued to decline. If you go down and hold what? Moreover, most of the spare parts of cars in the country originating from Japan," said Agus.
