"We could lose momentum, Russia has expressed its readiness," said oil analyst, Kurtubi, in Jakarta, Friday, March 25, 2011.
He affirmed that if the Russians build a pipeline to supply gas to the needs of Japan, Indonesia will not get the chance again.
Then, from where the supply of additional gas was taken? Kurtubi said the government could drain gas from fields previously Tangguh LNG to Sempra, a Mexican company. "This is for the short term, it has not been realized by Sempra," he said.
Meanwhile, for the long term, according to him, the government can use an existing gas reserves in the block. "That's huge reserves, could be for 30 years," said Kurtubi.
Natuna block has estimated reserves of 40-50 thousand trillion cubic feed (TCF). "About 50 percent could be used domestically and the rest for export to Japan. Moreover, Japan is always bought with a price that high because the value of natural resources," said Kurtubi.
He added that Japan needs to gas and coal are likely to grow because of the nuclear reactors used for electricity supply 11 thousand megawatts (MW) stopped. "After the explosion of a nuclear reactor, Japan will likely reduce the use of nuclear power plants," said Kurtubi.
According to the Head of Public Relations Division of BP Migas, Gde Pradnyana, the Japanese government has officially requested additional gas supplies to Indonesia. "Already last week," he said.
But, he explained, the letter did not mention both the volume and duration of the contract. "I think it will be determined through a B to B (Business to Business)," explained Gde.
Regarding the choice of the distribution of gas to Japan, Gde said Indonesia only has three gas fields are possible, namely Field Arun, Bontang, and Tough. As for the proposal to distribute Kurtubi Tangguh gas to Japan, Gde explains, "Any gas that will be taken that the existing contract, we must see first," he said.
