Route Switch Garuda Japan to Middle East

"Umrah is always full loaded aircraft, over 98 percent."

PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk reduce flights to Japan and divert it to the Middle East routes. This was done to accommodate passengers who lack Umrah flights.

Marketing and Sales Director of Garuda Indonesia, M Arif Wibowo, said that during the three months from March to May, Garuda reduce the number of flights from Japan. Of the two routes, each of Narita and Narita-Jakarta-Denpasar now a Narita-Jakarta-Denpasar.

"Reduction of flights from Japan we switch to Jeddah. Now three flights per day that were previously only two flights," he said after signing the agreement with PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) in Plaza Mandiri, Jakarta, Friday, March 25, 2011.

According to Arif, flights to Jeddah is fat aviation market. In addition, the market is still lack of Umrah flights. The reason, many prospective Umrah pilgrims who have pocketed a visa but can not depart.

For Umrah passengers flew the airline will use Boeing 747 400 aircraft types that have larger capacities. This aircraft can accommodate 428 passengers. "Umrah is always full loaded aircraft, over 98 percent," he said.

Despite the decline in post-disaster, said Arif, his side still hoping there is a large income from Japanese routes during "Golden Week" which will take place from March 22 to May 8, when Japan entered a period of long holiday. "The contents [load factor] was above 90 percent." he said.

This year, Garuda is targeting a profit of Rp1, 4 trillion, with revenues almost reached Rp19 trillion.
