Local Government Replace Paper with iPad 2

The government spent about Rp235 million just to buy paper and binding.

Local Government Charleston County, South Carolina, the United States is determined to replace the use of paper to minimize the number of trees to be felled to be used as raw material.

For the initial stage, they will buy 15 units iPad tablet 2 to replace the need for some staff and board members in handling the document as an attempt to build a paperles office.

Currently, local government expenditure amounting to U.S. $ 27,000, or about Rp235 million per year just to buy paper and binding. With a price range of U.S. $ 900 per unit, means for this year, Charleston County will save about 50 percent of the budget.

"We've done a cost analysis and estimate that we will save significant amounts of the budget," said Walter smalls, Assistant County Administrator for Charleston County General Services, as quoted from Montrealgazette, March 22, 2011.

Smalls said the government initially will certainly need time to adapt the work using such devices. However, it does not matter.

"All menyabut positive steps we're taking," said smalls. "Just like the hoe, we can dig holes faster with a hoe than using bare hands," he said.
