According to Professor of the University of Canada, Jacques Bertrand, who met in Jakarta, March 23, 2011, this is caused by the efforts made by the Canadian government in meeting the aspirations of a multi-ethnic population.
Bertrand said that the Canadian government's policy is flexible, which are based on prior dialogue with people from various tribes or groups who live in the country.
"The Government of Canada will hold a dialogue with certain groups, and the results of this dialogue is realized," said Bertrand who met at a seminar titled Promoting Multiculturalism in Southeast Asia: Is There a Lesson We Can Learn from Canada's Experience? in Jakarta.
He said that the Canadian government even has its own budget which is set by the Canadian Heritage. This budget is used to implement the spirit of multiculturalism as a result of dialogue with the government.
"So if a group of Muslims want to build mosques, the Canadian government will wake with this budget," said Bertrand again.
Bertrand said that the dialogue with this group then that underlie the policies adopted by the Canadian government. Appreciation and respect for the Canadian government is based on the contribution of these ethnic groups in building Canada.
"We appreciate the contribution of the values ​​of each community contributed to Canada, until this country be like now," said Bertrand.
Ambassador of Canada, MacKenzie Clugston, said that the Canadian government ensure the values ​​of diversity and it is stipulated in law and government policy.
"Laws and policies of Canada recognizes the diversity of race, culture, ethnicity, religion, ancestry and place of origin. We also guarantee freedom of religion, expression, association and assembly. All this is guaranteed by the Canadian Constitution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms of Canada," said Clugston who met in the same place.
Clugston said that the Canadian government managed to create a harmonious environment, among others, for several reasons, namely the flexibility of policies, approaches to ethnic groups, respect them and not take sides between one group with another group.
